Nowadays the term movie has implications leaning towards the larger big budget Hollywood blockbuster variety of film. Movies are an extremely popular form of entertainment with millions of people worldwide attending showings of movies, new and old at cinemas and theatres every day. Movies played at cinemas are typically shown using a projector, the movie itself stored on a reel of 35mm film and many people consider a viewing at the cinema the most enjoyable and authentic movie going experience.

However movies can also be enjoyed at home, the is a huge market for DVDs and DVD players and the technology is constantly advancing with developments such as Blu-Ray players become available to consumers. There is also an increasing number of websites and companies that are making movies available for download via the internet, and more and more people are switching onto this new technology, this however is also increasing the level of movie piracy seen as movies are being illegally shared over torrents and peer to peer file sharing networks which breaks a number of copyrighting laws.
